August 2013

Since releasing its report on bullying prevention in schools, colleges, and universities at the 2013 Annual Meeting—and generating coverage in USA Today, the Washington Post, and other news outlets—AERA has continued to keep out front on raising awareness and understanding of the issue and the recommendations issued in the report by AERA’s Task Force on the Prevention of Bullying.

In June, Dorothy Espelage, co-chair of the AERA task force, did a live interview with Education Talk Radio about the report’s findings. The in-depth, engaging conversation, which lasted nearly 45 minutes, explored the nuances of what research has found on the causes of—and possible approaches to stemming—the widespread pattern of bullying in U.S. institutions of learning.

Short videos of Espelage and her task force co-chair, Ron Avi Astor, discussing the charge of the AERA task force, the critical need for bringing research into the national conversation on bullying, and the report’s recommendations, are now featured on the AERA website.
