Georgia Immigration Law Leads AERA to Relocate 2013 Annual Meeting From Atlanta to San Francisco
February 2012
AERA has just announced that the AERA 2013 Annual Meeting will be relocated from Atlanta to San Francisco.
The Association had planned to hold the 2013 meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, but in June 2011, AERA Council began reconsidering the venue after the passage in May of HB87, the Illegal Immigration Reform and Enforcement Act of 2011, by the Georgia State Legislature. In April 2010, Council had passed
a related resolution
that the Association would not site meetings in Arizona until that state’s similar legislation (Arizona SB1070) was repealed.
On October 30, 2011, the AERA Executive Board unanimously approved relocation of the meeting and authorized Executive Director Felice J. Levine to reach a final site selection. In early February, after extensive examination of possible sites, a final decision was reached to hold the 2013 meeting in San Francisco.
On February 24, AERA issued
an announcement
on the relocation to San Francisco and the reasons for the change.
The 2013 Annual Meeting in San Francisco will run from Saturday, April 27, to Wednesday, May 1.
