AERA SIG
Foucault and Education Special Interest Group (SIG)
Mission/Statement of Purpose
The Foucault and Education SIG provides a forum for scholars and researchers interested in postmodern approaches to educational research. We are dedicated to historical and philosophical studies of education that engage the writings of Michel Foucault. We are interested in work that aims to identify and push the boundaries of Foucault's thought and that which plays in the interstices between Foucault and other theorists.
Message from the Communications Chair
Dear AERA Foucault and Education SIG Colleagues,
As some of you may be aware, at the SIG Business Meeting at the 2009 AERA Conference, we discussed the future of the SIG. Because of changes in session allocation protocols last year, our SIG was only allocated the SIG Business Meeting and ONE Roundtable Session this year. Given this outcome, we gathered at our Business Meeting to consider the future of the Foucault and Education SIG and whether we should redevelop it under a new name that would capture a broader academic audience without losing the core values around which it was originally organized. The consensus was that we should redevelop our SIG.
Linda Graham is working on the name change part of this redevelopment and I am working on the communications part of this. Through this newly established listserv, you will receive more information from both Linda and me as we move forward.
