Mission Statement
The Media, Culture, and Curriculum (MCC) SIG began in direct response to requests for debate on the interweaving of disciplines such as Media Studies (with its origins in England), Culture Studies, and Curriculum. While technology remains a vital part of our focus of interest, we use the term MEDIA to embrace all aspects of the transmission of knowledge and information rather than taking a more narrow view. At the 2009 Business Meeting held at the AERA Annual Meeting in San Diego, we asked our members two broad thought questions: (a) what media or technology they thought was most important right now, and (b) what research questions they felt were most vital given MCC's focus. The following tag cloud images should give some idea of the range and depth of our shared interests:
As these snapshots illustrate, the MCC SIG provides a forum for discussion of educational research related to media and technology, learning and culture, curriculum design and assessment, and other related themes. We maintain high standards for research, value interdisciplinary conversation, and have a vested interest in fostering excellence among senior graduate students and junior faculty. MCC is interested in not only theory and research related to key MCC themes but also direct application of this growing base of knowledge and its impact on school curriculum. We actively seek to grow our membership base and look forward to your submissions for the AERA Annual Conference Meeting.
