Funding Opportunities
Grant Competition: Institute of Education Sciences
Institute of Education Sciences (IES) Research Grant Competitions for FY 2009
The National Center for Education Research is conducting one research competition (84.305A Education Research) that encompasses two topic areas:
Mathematics and Science Education (http://ies.ed.gov/ncer/funding/math_science/index.asp)
Teacher Quality - Mathematics and Science Education (http://ies.ed.gov/ncer/funding/tq_math/index.asp)
The former focuses on curriculum and instructional approaches to improving student learning, and the latter focuses on approaches to improved teacher professional development that will result in increased student learning.
Applications are requested to focus on one of five research goals: identification of factors that influence student and teacher performance, development of a program to improve student achievement or teacher professional development, efficacy and replication trials of previously developed interventions, scale-up trials of interventions, and development and/or validation of student and or teacher assessments (measurement). IES research supports a broad range of methodologies, appropriate to the research questions. Depending on the research goal, and the duration and scope of the project, typical awards range between $700,000 for two years up to $6,000,000 for five years.
The fall application deadline is October 2, 2008. Letters of Intent (LOIs) are optional. If you did not submit an LOI it is still possible for you to apply for these grants. Program officers are available to discuss your ideas.
