Three new AERA task forces will offer meeting attendees the opportunity to share their viewpoints in open discussion forums in Vancouver next month.

The AERA Task Force on Evaluating Educational Research, Scholarship, and Teaching in Postsecondary Education will launch its work with an open forum on Sunday, April 15, 2:15 p.m.–3:45 p.m. The task force is chaired by James S. Fairweather (Michigan State University)  and the session will be an informal opportunity for all AERA members to aid the task force’s deliberations by providing input on how to evaluate research, scholarship, and teaching in a rapidly changing academic environment.

Two other AERA task forces will offer open forums on Monday, April 16. The forum of the AERA Task Force on Standards for Part-Time, Adjunct, and Contingent Faculty (10:35 a.m.–12:05 p.m.) will be chaired by Adrianna Kezar (University of Southern California). The focus of this task force is to consider the working conditions of the fastest growing group in academe—part-time, adjunct, and contingent faculty—and how those conditions might be improved. The task force welcomes participation by all meeting attendees.

Also to be held on Monday is the open forum of the AERA Task Force on the Prevention of Bullying in Schools, Colleges, and Universities (12:25 p.m.–1:55 p.m.). All meeting attendees are invited to take part. With Dorothy L. Espelage (University of Illinois) as chair, this group will call upon the extant research literature on bullying in educational organizations to recommend strategies to lessen the problem.

AERA encourages all meeting attendees to take advantage of these open forums and participate in the task force processes.
