Collaborations with Posthuman Nexus
The Critical Posthuman and Postfoundational Studies in Education SIG is partnering on a number of initiatives with the Posthuman Nexus:
We will also be hosting a joint social at AERA on April 11 (details to come). For more information, visit www.posthumannexus.org and join the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/groups/posthumannexus.
Annual AERA proposal writing series
Each summer, the Critical Posthuman and Postfoundational Studies in Education SIG and Posthuman Nexus jointly host a three-session workshop series led by Dr. Katie Strom to help prepare high-quality AERA proposals and learn to navigate the submission process. The series begins with a general orientation to AERA and its units (divisions/sections and SIGs) to help participants decide the best fit for their proposal. Main content includes proposal-writing instruction drawing on systemic functional linguistics, which provides strategies to craft proposals to support proposal reviewers to easily locate the quality criteria they will use in their assessments. Participants also have the option to sign up to review a peer’s paper and have theirs reviewed in return.
There is no registration fee, but participants are asked to make a donation in whatever denomination they choose to the SIG. Funds raised support an AERA social and travel awards for graduate students.
Spring Mentorship program
In the spring, a two-session follow-up workshop is provided through a collaboration between the Critical Posthuman and Postfoundational Studies in Education SIG and Posthuman Nexus, again led by Dr. Katie Strom. Session 1 provides guidance for building the proposal out into a draft paper; Session 2 offers pointers for presentations as well as general advice for navigating and making the most of the AERA conference itself.
