Who's Who in AERA

Executive Board

Executive Board Roster

The Executive Board consists of the President, President-elect, the Immediate Past President, the Council Members-at-Large in their second and third year, and three members elected from the Council (excluding the first year Member-at-Large). The Board meets in conjunction with each Council meeting, usually the day prior to that meeting. In addition, the Board has been urged to meet as necessary throughout the year to take a more active role in the governance of the Association.

The Board is empowered to act for the Association between Council meetings. When the need arises, the Board frequently acts by mail ballot or a telephone conference call. The Board has the responsibility for the appointment of the Executive Director with the approval of the Council and has been delegated the responsibility for the selection of Annual Meeting sites and establishing the salaries of the Central Office personnel. In addition, the following defines further responsibilities of the Executive Board: recommend agendas for Council meetings; formulate resolutions pertaining to AERA policy and operations for presentation to Council; review Presidential appointments of the chairs of standing committees, editors, and chair of the AERA Nominating Committee and approve terminations; serve in an advisory capacity to the Executive Director and President; and serve as the Association's finance committee to review the annual budget of the Association. In recent years the Board has been encouraged by the Council to closely monitor and advise the Association's GPL Program. The Board has also been encouraged to address routine agenda items to enable the Council to have sufficient time for larger policy issues and long term planning.
